The main form of the Stargate™ is a ring, we can however notice, that it becomes narrower from outside to inside at the level of the thickness. Every type of piece is being  reproduced several times identicaly. The gate is made with resin and fibreglass, erected on steel.

The detached parts :

are 9 in number and divided at the level of the chevrons:

– The interior ring:

Its finishing touches are not optimal, the joints meet up not in a continuous way between the engravings.

The front Ring has as well a perpendicular part, who concludes the Stargate™ inward, this one is made of 19 triplets like these:

-The exterior ring :

The engravings are the same everywhere.

-The back panel :

It gathers the front pieces of the Gate in one piece.

-The frieze/the flange :

It stands between every chevron, is composed of a multitude of geometric form arranged on two levels.

Are larger:

-The moving ring :

It’s composed of 39 glyphes divided among 8 plaques (7×5 and 1×4). The joints are between the glyphes at the level of the bars.

-The chevrons :

Either they are in front or behind, they are composed of five parts: a main V (in moving sometimes ) and a interior V as well as a transparent orange part and two “pads” right and left too.

The main Chevron has a grey plaque on its transparent moving part. The interior V of the front chevrons is retied to the part that we see behind, and who has many geometric forms. This plaque is the one who reties it to the gate, contrary to the back chevrons, who have not this plaque, because it is molded with the back panel.

We count so 10 type of different pieces and 39 glyphes, 129 pieces in all. Excluding the mechanisms and the steel basis.

The mechanisms :

-The lights :

It concerns bulbs with lengthened filaments. They stand under the transparent orange part of the Chevrons.

They come on slowly . With the exception of the main chevron, who comes on and turns off every time a chevron is locked, the other chevrons light and stay until the Stargate™ closes.

-L’anneau mobile :

This one begins to turn clockwise, then anticlockwise, slows down just before the desired glyphe be in front of the main chevron. It’s with a motor having some little cogwheels that we make turn the ring , who’s placed on a big cogwheel at its exterior end. At its interior end we find a steel tube who is placed on little wheels. Note this: the noise of rumble of the gate is generated by little steel strips who beat at a bar.

-The main chevron :

Once the desired glyph under it, the V drops down almost to the inner ring and lights along with the orange part, which is itself raised about 5 centimeters (but only the front part).

Here the rear lights, however, because the model does not include originally some light at the back we can think that this is done by editing with a computer . Maybe it is only the main chevron that has this light. Difficult to be certain with the shooting of the series.

Then these two moving parts return to their places and switch off, the ring goes in the other way.

The complete procedure :

-We first enter the symbols  either in the SGC program (I have a version made by fans) either on a DHD.

-With the DHD :

Each time you press a symbol, it turns on, as well as the one on the door. Note this: they light up in the direction of clockwise starting with the chevron located to the right of the main one. Once all symbols are entered (usually 7), the door opens, then the chevrons remain lit until its extinction. Strangely, if you compose seven symbols, the two chevrons at the bottom of the door (sometimes buried) do not light.

-With the programme :

Once the symbols entered in the computer, the door rotates in clockwise until the symbol be in front of the main chevron, it is as mentioned above, and at the same time the first chevron lights (and the rest), then the door starts again to do the same anticlockwise , once the 7th, 8th and 9th chevron are locked, the door opens. I have no idea which chevron does not light if one composes eight symbols, it is usually either the 4th or 5th. The chevrons remain lit until the extinction of the door.

The main door is molded plastic, the mechanism inside is metal, each piece is attached with screws placed at a specific location for the chevrons and a little random at times on the door itself. In the first episode of SGU we can see the screws, and even loops screwed behind which are probably used to hang the iris.

The iris :

Talk about it! This is a big round one piece that fits exactly in the middle of the door, the bottom is engraved in a piece, the front bouquet is made of 20 parts. They are cut from sheets of plastic and then painted.

The DHD :

It is composed of a base, of 39 symbols and a main round.

But of a cache at the front too, behind which there is a blue apparatus and transparent plates.
In one episode, the keyboard of DHD is removed, we see below largely transparent panels illuminated as before. (It is almost impossible that the usual keyboard and this panel will be found together in the DHD, this is probably an adaptation for this episode.)
